boston-law-collaborative-meeting-table-resizeBLC Institute faculty are experienced dispute resolution practitioners, trainers and faculty members at Harvard Law School and the Harvard Negotiation Institute. We have designed and led programs for major corporations, insurance companies, lawyers, law firms, dispute resolvers, health care professionals, human resources managers, mental health professionals, law students, court personnel, and others. We will design a training to fit the needs of your business or organization.

Mediation Advocacy Training – Twenty years ago, lawyers rarely participated in mediations. Today, it is a rare litigation matter in which neither the lawyers nor the court suggests the possibility of mediation. While arbitration skills are similar to those that lawyers employ in court, mediation skills are different and require different training. BLC offers training to prepare lawyers to succeed in mediation. BLC’s David Hoffman, who was a Hill & Barlow litigator for seventeen years, and Audrey Lee, have taught hundreds of lawyers how to make the most of mediation by developing new negotiating tools, addressing the psychological dimensions of conflict, and designing a cost-effective dispute resolution process for each case.

Mediation Training – We design and teach basic and advanced mediation trainings for organizations, companies, governmental agencies, and educational institutions. These programs range in duration from 1-2 hours to a week-long training depending on the needs of the client.

Conflict Management Training – When you combine tight timelines, shrinking resources, and increased demands, it’s a recipe for conflict. This hands-on workshop will explore ways to approach conflicts more productively regardless of the role you may play – colleague, manager, or HR rep. This workshop is led by experienced neutrals from BLC’s ADR Panel.

Negotiation Training – We design and lead trainings ranging from an hour to a day on basic and advanced techniques for negotiating interest-based solutions that are typically better than those produced by competitive, positional bargaining.  (For a primer on successful negotiation techniques, click here.)
