Veteran Employment Lawyer, Jody L. Newman, Joins Boston Law Collaborative

Boston Law Collaborative, LLC has added veteran employment lawyer and mediator Jody Newman to its practice.

Ms. Newman has more than 35 years’ experience resolving workplace disputes and investigating bias and sexual misconduct cases in workplaces and college campuses.

Ms. Newman spent most of her career representing individuals in employment matters at Collora, LLP, a litigation firm where she served as managing partner from 2007-2012.  She then became a partner in the Boston office of the global law firm, Hogan Lovells US LLP, where she counseled employers, after that firm merged with Collora in 2017.  She has handled numerous jury and non-jury trials, administrative hearings, and appeals in state and federal courts.

In recent years, Ms. Newman has become a mediator and adjudicator of employment and other disputes.  In 2017, she was one of the lawyers hired by the Massachusetts Senate’s Ethics Committee to investigate then Senate president Stanley Rosenberg.  She has also served as a university Title IX adjudicator and has provided workplace trainings on sexual harassment and implicit bias for businesses and governmental entities.  She has also participated as counsel or as mediator in over a hundred mediations.

“I have found that the vast majority of legal disputes can be resolved far more successfully and less expensively by mediation,” said Ms. Newman.  “My years in the courtroom help me to see the strengths and weakness of my clients’ cases, and guide them toward a resolution.”

Ms. Newman has won numerous awards and recognitions for her work as a lawyer, including the Distinguished Community Leadership Award of the Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action, the Top Women of Law awarded by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, and a listing every year since 2006 in U.S. News and World Report’s book “Best Lawyers in America.”

“Bringing Jody Newman on board is a very exciting development for Boston Law Collaborative,” said the firm’s founding member David Hoffman, who teaches mediation at Harvard Law School.  “She is one of the preeminent employment lawyers in New England – highly regarded for her work in landmark cases, and just as widely respected for her ability to achieve excellent settlements for her clients.  I am beyond thrilled that she will be making all of that expertise available to our clients and expanding our practice in the areas of employment and dispute resolution.”
