SUMMARY:Counteracting Racism & Other Systemic Bias:The Head\, the Heart & the Street
DESCRIPTION:The virus of racism and other forms of bias pervades our society at both the personal and organizational levels – and there is no vaccine for it. This interactive workshop will provide tools for recognizing and addressing bias at both levels. We will use small group discussions and participatory exercises to learn from each other how we can move from intellectual and emotional awareness to becoming agents for change. \nWorkshop leader Matt Thompson\, who is an Affiliate at Boston Law Collaborative\, LLC\, has broad experience as a trainer and organizational consultant and has held diversity positions at such companies and institutions as State Street Bank\, Shawmut National Corporation\, The Boston Company\, Draper Laboratories\, the University of Massachusetts\, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. \nThis program has been designed for and will be delivered on Zoom. A link will be emailed to all registrants the day before the program. For any questions\, please email BLCI Administrator\, Jenna Goodman at Jgoodman@blc.law. SUMMARY:Biased? Who\, Me?! A Candid Look at the Problem of Implicit Bias
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an interactive online workshop to explore the origins of biases\, how they can be measured\, and how we can counteract them. \nAll of us have biases\, and some biases have served us well as a species\, protecting us from danger and enabling us to make routine decisions quickly. Other biases have not served us well in a modern\, diverse society\, where the tendency to feel more comfortable with people who are like us creates blinders of which we are often unaware. This workshop will explore the origins of biases\, how they can be measured\, and how we can counteract – in ourselves and others – those biases that stand in the way of progress against racism\, sexism\, homophobia\, and other forms of discrimination in our society. This program has been designed for and will be delivered on Zoom. To learn more\, please click here. \nFinancial assistance is available. Please contact Jenna Goodman\, BLC Institute Program Administrator (jgoodman@blc.law) to learn more.

SUMMARY:Assessing Workplace Bias in the Era of #MeToo and Black Lives Matter
DESCRIPTION:Assessing Workplace Bias in the Era of #MeToo and Black Lives Matter: Understanding Root Causes and Conducting Cultural Assessments \nEqual employment opportunity and anti-discrimination laws have been on the books nationally since 1964\, yet recent social movements from #MeToo and to Black Lives Matter have shown that decades of employment policies around these laws have been ineffective in eliminating bias at work. Likewise\, traditional D&I initiatives have fallen short of measurable progress. This program focuses on why this is\, covering the 4 levels of bias which intersect at the workplace. We will also cover best practices to determine the actual experiences of underrepresented groups in a particular business. \nWorkshop leader Jody Newman\, Esq.\, who is Of Counsel at Boston Law Collaborative\, has been a leading employment lawyer in Boston for more than 35 years\, representing both employees and employers\, and has broad experience in independent workplace assessments and investigations and as a mediator. This program has been designed for and will be delivered on Zoom. \nA link will be emailed to all registrants the day before the program. For any questions\, please email BLCI Administrator\, Jenna Goodman at Jgoodman@blc.law.
